Want 3 Reasons to Go With Dick Wolfsie? Read On
Elsewhere on this page, we’re announcing our next big trip with our friends at Collette Travel. Don’t know about you, but I first heard about Collette from watching my favorite game show, Wheel of Fortune. (Could I have an E, Pat, uh, I mean Ryan?) This destination is Costa Rica and folks will enjoy the sights and sounds (and warmth) of Central America from Feb. 6-14.
And once again, the guy in the spotlight for this trip is long-time friend of our papers, Dick Wolfsie.
I met Dick, oh gosh, probably 30 years ago. Of course I had watched him for years. Every morning I got up and watched Dave Barras, Ruthanne Gordon, Randy Ollis and of course Dick and Barney give us the latest news, views and weather. Indianapolis didn’t seem nearly as violent then, or maybe it was just the friendly way they delivered the message.
At that time, I was working in southern Indiana and one day I got a message that the guy I watched on TV wanted me to call him back. When I did, I found out he was pitching his column to Indiana newspapers. Heck, I was already a fan so we agreed to meet to talk details. But when we sat down, there was no sales pitch, no chit-chat. The first thing he said, and I quote, “Why don’t newspaper editors return calls?”
I must have looked . . . uh, perplexed?
“I’m asking,” he said, “because you’re one of the few who called me back.”
Turns out, he had a point. He told me several papers he had been calling – and not hearing back from. I knew some of those folks so I reached out and perhaps helped open a few doors. Dunno. But I do know I was excited to add Dick’s funny and easy-to-read writing to our pages, and many of you have reaffirmed what a good decision that was.
So here’s your chance to go on vacation with him!
Our last trip with Dick was called the Northern Lights tour. Why Dick and his family wanted to travel to frigid Iceland I have no idea. But I heard a good time was had by all. (By the way, Dick didn’t tell me why he chose Costa Rica this time, but I strongly suspect it’s simply to warm up. The average temp in Costa Rica in February is in the 80s. The average temp in Indiana in February is officially “gee I can’t feel my toes.” Just saying.)
The cost of the trip depends on whether there’s one, two or three in your group, but it’s around $4k. (Here’s a link you can go to if you want all the specifics: https://gateway.gocollette.com/link/1344002
Yeah, yeah, I’m starting to sound like the barker at the carnival, but seriously folks – step right up. The seats are limited and time is running short. I think we close the trip out sometime next month. (Yes, I should know but no one tells the boss anything around here.) Trust me, though. Go to that link and you can get all the details.
All I really know about this are three things:
- It’s cold in Indiana in February.
- It’s really cold in Indiana in February.
- It’s really, really cold in Indiana in February.
Check that, I know four things. You’ll get warm and have a lot of fun with Dick if you go on this trip. Enjoy!
