Westfield Washington School System is pleased to announce that 20 second and third grade students have qualified for the National Math Stars program. The Indiana Department of Education has partnered with National Math Stars to formally recognize exceptional mathematical talent across Indiana. ILEARN assessment data reports that these students scored within the top 2 percent of third grade math learners.
“The Reveal Math Curriculum provides many opportunities for differentiated instruction for my students,” third grade teacher Melissa Shaffer said. “What makes WWS great though is the way our teams collaborate to use the resources effectively and intentionally tailor instruction for our students.”
NMS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving extraordinary math students from all communities. Every year, the nation’s highest performing second and third grade students are nominated to apply for one of its free long-term support programs. Program supports are tailored to each student’s family.
“This recognition is an exciting celebration of the talent and potential of our young learners in WWS,” Dr. Krystal Thompson, EL & High Ability Coordinator said. “Being identified as National Math Stars reflects not only the students’ achievement and perseverance, but also the support and encouragement they receive from their teachers and families each day. We are incredibly proud of these young mathematicians and all they have accomplished.”
